Bio
Dehlice Shelton
"Original Powerful Phenomenal!" These are only a few
words audiences have
used to describe the artistry of singer/songwriter Dehlice Shelton.
"Through
her singing, she fills the air with classical elegance."
Her stage presence,
alone, lures you from the day-to-day, hard working mother of two
you will find
at home. Onstage, Dehlice captivates audiences with a seductive
force that
embrace her vocal skills. As a songwriter, Dehlice has written
lyrics and
composed/arranged several original songs-two of which have been
published.
A native of
New Orleans Louisiana, Dehlice's first introduction to music was
playing the violin in elementary school. From age 14 - 17, she
connected with
musicians who played R&B and Pop music. This exposure peaked
her interest
in singing and performance. At age 17, she moved to Baton Rouge
where the
opportunity to become a singer just "happened."
After numerous
performances through high school and showcases, Dehlice
began singing with groups such as Bobby Powell, Crystal and Daily
News
in and around the Greater Baton Rouge area. Two years later, she
joined
forces with the keyboard player from Crystal and began a partnership
to
develop writing, arranging and producing original music. This
eventually
led to Dehlice doing background vocals and vocal arranging for
other local
artist.
Dehlice took
a few years off to raise her children, not realizing that
the music industry would soon call her back. Once her children
were
old enough, she enrolled at Louisiana State University to pursue
music
to the fullest. This time she entered the world of classical music.
She
found this to be challenging, yet confining to her creative abilities.
Dehlice graduated from LSU with a degree in vocal performance
with her
years of experience in R&B, Jazz, and Pop music. Her desire
to develop her
composition skills and learn more about the business of music
led Dehlice
to enter the graduate voice program at Loyola University, New
Orleans.
While earning her Master of Music in Vocal Performance, Dehlice
further
developed her skills as a composer. Her studies culminated with
a triumphant
graduate recital that featured classical works, spirituals and
music
composed and arranged by the artist herself.
Dehlice Shelton's
awards and honors include the 2001 Arts
Ambassadors award, the National Association of Teachers of Singing
Vocal Competition and performing at the New Orleans Jazz &
Heritage
Festival with Jazz Great, Alvin Batiste. Dehlice is an extraordinary,
versatile talent on the verge of making her mark in the music
industry.
